2021 : l’année du déploiement de la 5G
Malgré la crise due au Covid-19, la course au déploiement de la 5G a officiellement débuté. Les différents opérateurs téléphoniques se sont mobilisés pour mettre en œuvre cette nouvelle génération de communication mobile. Découvrez ce qu’il faut savoir sur les changements technologiques et le fonctionnement de la 5G.
Comprendre la 5G
Après la 2G, la 3G et la 4G, c’est la 5G qui débarque en France. Le coup d’envoi a été donné depuis le 18 novembre. Un débit multiplié par 10 et une latence divisée par 10, cette nouvelle technologie promet des changements phares qui bouleverseront les usages des internautes.
La 5G est la 5ème génération de téléphonie mobile ; la première génération a permis de passer des appels, la deuxième d’envoyer des SMS, la 3ème de se connecter à internet et la 4ème de développer l’usage de l’internet mobile.
La 5G est la mise à jour de la 4G. Cette mise à jour vient en réponse à l’explosion de la consommation de data mobile. Le déploiement de la 5G a pour but d’augmenter le débit et d’améliorer l’accès aux services proposé par les réseaux 4G.
En effet, le réseau 4G est en vue d’être saturé en raison de l’augmentation des nombres d’utilisateurs de la téléphonie mobile. Le déploiement de la 5G permettra de gérer, non seulement les smartphones, mais également les ordinateurs, les objets connectés… surtout dans un écosystème de plus en plus orienté vers la domotique (maison connectée, ville intelligente, sécurité…).
La 5G : comment ça marche ?
La 5G reprend certaines technologies déjà utilisées par la 4G. Un smartphone 5G pourra donc bénéficier d’un meilleur débit que celui doté d’une 4G, même s’ils sont connectés à la même antenne et utilisent la même fréquence. Pour revenir au fonctionnement de la 5G, un réseau mobile a besoin de fréquences et d’antenne pour émettre un signal. Le déploiement de la 5G bénéficie de bandes de fréquences divisées en deux groupes : les bandes de fréquences 5G Sub-6 et les ondes millimétriques.
- Les bandes de fréquences 5G Sub-6 couvrent les bandes des 3.5 GHz (attribuées en exclusivité à la 5G et assurant une montée significative en matière de débit) et les fréquences de la 4G (composées de fréquences basses adaptées aux zones rurales et les fréquences plus hautes pour les zones urbaines) ;
- Les ondes millimétriques sont la nouvelle gamme de fréquences utilisées pour le réseau mobile 5G. Ces ondes permettent un débit important au détriment de la portée et garantissent la capacité à traverser les murs.
Le déploiement de la 5G implique l’utilisation d’autres nouvelles technologies. En effet, pour que les communications et les données mobiles passent par les fréquences, elles doivent être relayées par des antennes. Les opérateurs téléphoniques devront s’appuyer sur des supports existants pour y installer des antennes spécifiques pour la 5G, appelées Massive MIMO. Pour l’émission des signaux, beamforming est une technologie adaptée qui permet, grâce au network slicing, de cibler chaque utilisateur au lieu de submerger toute la zone en ondes.
Comment se fera le déploiement de la 5G ?
Tout comme les autres réseaux, le déploiement de la 5G se fera progressivement. D’ailleurs, certains pays ont commencé le processus et plusieurs marques ont déjà proposé des appareils compatibles 5G. En France, l’autorisation d’ouvrir des réseaux commerciaux a été octroyée en octobre 2020 et les premiers forfaits 5G sont arrivés depuis le 18 novembre. Parmi les smartphones et les PC compatibles 5G, nous citons :
- La gamme Samsung Galaxy S20 ;
- Le Oppo Find X2 Pro ;
- Le Sony Xperia 1 II ;
- Tous les iPhone 12 ;
- Lenovo Yoga 5G et HP Dragonfly pour les PC.
Qu’est-ce qui va changer avec la 5G ?
Débit, latence et densité sont les principaux facteurs impactés par l’apparition de la 5G :
- Une montée significative de débit est garantie avec des vitesses de connexion plus rapides. Le déploiement de la 5G promet un débit 10 fois plus rapide que celui de la 4G ;
- La 5G garantit un temps de latence beaucoup plus réduit qui passera de 10 à 1 milliseconde. De nouveaux usages verront le jour grâce à ce temps de réaction raccourci et quasi-immédiat
- Une plus grande densité d’appareils connectés multipliée par 10 est assurée. Grâce à la 5G, le réseau pourra supporter 1 millions d’appareils par km².
En conséquence à ces résultats, et dans le domaine du streaming, l’arrivée de la 5G va aboutir à l’émergence du cloud gaming. De nouvelles applications en temps réel seront créées, comme la télémédecine, et un fort usage de la réalité augmentée sera concrétisé.
